A 10-year-old bestselling author will be one of the highlights at the annual Northside Story Fest scheduled for Saturday, May 19 at Stinson Middle School. The event will be held from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

The free family literacy event is geared toward elementary students and will include storytellers, national and local authors, a book fair, MakerSpace stations, bookmark making, games, and more.

Children must be accompanied by a parent or other responsible adult.

“This is a great opportunity for our younger readers to meet authors, listen to stories, purchase books, play games, and further develop their love of reading,” says Frances Ramos-Contreras, librarian at Hatchett Elementary School.

Early bird door prizes will be given away at the opening session which begins at 12:30 p.m. with author introductions.

Authors and presenters for the event include Anastasia McKenna, Heather Wisenbaker, Jeff Anderson, Jennifer Mendiola, Mary Virginia Pittman, Nathaniel James Dowell, Susan Holt Kralovansky, and 10-year-old sensation Sydney McGee.

Last year, more than 500 families attended Story Fest which is sponsored by NISD Elementary Librarians. Artwork for this year’s event was created by Donovan Marg, a second grader at Fields Elementary School.
