NISD student named big winner in Cavaliers Art Contest

Seth Juarez, a 5th grader at Lewis Elementary School, is the grand prize winner in the 2017 Texas Cavaliers River Parade Art Contest. He was one of four NISD elementary student finalists.

Each finalist received $3,000 for their school’s art program and a one-week summer scholarship to the Southwest School of Art. Each runner up received $1,000 for their school’s art program.

As grand prize winner, Juarez received a total of $5,000 for his school’s art program and a summer art program scholarship. His artwork will also be featured on the river parade’s program and he will ride on the Grand Marshal’s float in the 2017 Texas Cavaliers River Parade on April 24. He also receives one year of free Whataburger.

            Art teacher: Stephanie Baize

           

The theme for this year’s contest was “Kaleidoscope,” and over 1,200 entries were received from more than 50 schools.

Ten finalists were recognized at a press conference at the Southwest School of Art where the grand prize winner was announced.

With finalists and runners-up in this year’s contest, NISD students earned $21,000 for their schools’ art programs.
