Each February educators across the country celebrate Career and Technical Education (CTE) and the achievements and accomplishments of CTE programs. This year’s theme from the Association for Career and Technical Education for CTE Month is “Celebrate Today, Own Tomorrow” giving school districts the opportunity to demonstrate how students are not only college-ready but also career-ready.
In addition to a number of campus-based CTE activities, NISD is inviting all 8th through 12th grade students to an event on Thursday, Feb. 9 focused on career choices. The event will enable a potential of 38,000 students the opportunity to explore careers in Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources; Architecture and Construction; Arts, A/V Technology, and Communications, Business, Management, and Administration; Education and Training; Finance; Health Science; Hospitality and Tourism; Human Services; Information Technology; Law, Public Safety, Corrections, and Security; Manufacturing; Marketing; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM); and Transportation, Distribution, and Logistics.
More than 30 industry representatives from companies around the area will be available to talk to the students individually about their career fields. In addition, CTE students from Cosmetology, Robotics, Fashion Design and Health Science will display their student projects during the event.
The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the C.E. Vickery Agriculture Center located on the O’Connor High School campus, 12221 Leslie Road.
