Natalie Tan, 5th grader at Locke Hill ES, is the grand prize winner in the 2016 Texas Cavaliers River Parade Art Contest. She was one of four NISD elementary student finalists.
Each finalist received $3,000 for their school’s art program and a one-week summer scholarship to the Southwest School of Art. Each runner up received $1,000 for their school’s art program.
As grand prize winner, Tan received a total of $5,000 for her school’s art program and a summer art program scholarship. Her artwork will also be featured on the river parade’s program and she will ride on the Grand Marshal’s float in the 2016 Texas Cavaliers River Parade on April 18. She also receives one year of free Whataburger.

The theme for this year’s contest was “River of Champions,” and over 2,500 entries were received from 80 schools.Eleven finalists were recognized at a press conference at the Southwest School of Art where the grand prize winner was announced. With finalists and runners-up in this year’s contest, NISD students earned $19,000 for their schools’ art programs. Viva Northside!
