Families, students, and staff beautify neighborhood schools

April 9, 2015

Three Northside ISD schools celebrated the “Month of the Family” on Saturday, April 11 by beautifying their schools. This is the second year for the event.

Jay High School, Jones Middle School, and Cable Elementary conducted “Family Day” beautification projects with the help of more than 200 families, staff, community members, city leaders, and Nissan representatives. Superintendent Dr. Brian Woods also participated.

The event began at 8 a.m. with a kick-off ceremony. Projects were done between 9 and 11 a.m., with a closing ceremony at Jones Middle School at 11:30 a.m.

Projects include:

·         Jay HS:  adding color to their courtyard by planting a flower bed, pulling weeds, and adding mulch.

·         Jones MS:  repainting the cougar in the front courtyard and a cleanup of the cement benches and other areas in the front of the school.

·         Cable ES:  adding stepping stones, benches and tables for the garden area that was building at last year’s event.

Parents Step Ahead (PSA) and Nissan/San Antonio partnered with NISD for the community service day to encourage families to be active participants in their schools. Nissan employees based in San Antonio will work alongside local volunteers to demonstrate the company’s commitment to education and the community.
