Warren High School will host a “Student Aid San Antonio” Saturday event this Saturday, March 22, to help students and parents apply for college financial aid. The event is free and open to students from all NISD high schools. Parents and students are encouraged to attend.
One-on-one assistance will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Warren High School, 9411 Military Drive W, 78251.
The Student Aid San Antonio initiative offers free one-on-one help to students and parents completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) forms for college financial aid. Trained financial aid experts offer assistance in English and Spanish, as well as information on scholarship applications.
“Successfully submitting the online financial aid forms is one of the strongest indicators that a high school senior will enroll in college, yet fewer than half of San Antonio students complete these forms,” said Dr. Deborah Healy, Director of Guidance and Counseling. “The services offered at Student Aid San Antonio Saturdays are so important for both students and their families. I hope our Northside community takes advantage of this free opportunity.”
In San Antonio, more than 8,000 high school seniors did not complete a financial aid application last year according to national FAFSA completion data. In its third year, Student Aid San Antonio works to increase the number of San Antonio students who successfully complete a financial aid application. Last year more than 1,000 students and families were assisted through SASA.
In order to receive any type of funding, students must complete a financial aid application.
“The sooner students apply for financial aid, the more money they are likely to receive. Every year, aid-eligible students who think they might not qualify miss out on financial aid by simply not applying,” said Dr. Healy.
Student Aid San Antonio is a joint effort with Firstmark Credit Union, the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the San Antonio Education Partnership, Advise TX – Trinity University chapter, and SA2020.
