Northside looking for substitute teachers

Northside ISD is looking for additional substitute teachers and substitute instructional assistants.

Ninety semester hours from an accredited college or university meets the minimum qualifications to become a substitute teacher. This may be particularly attractive to education majors who are nearing their degree completion and can substitute teach in Northside to gain valuable experience.  Northside substitutes who have never taught before receive free training in classroom management, discipline, and teaching strategies.

“Some people work as substitute teachers for the extra income and others for career exploration and discovery,” says Patty Denham Hill, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. “Some work as substitutes because of the flexible days and variety of settings. However, everyone who works as a substitute does so because of their love of children and learning.”

Minimum qualifications for Substitute Teachers are:

  • Teacher Certification – or – at least 90 semester hours from a USOE Regionally-Accredited College or University
  • Minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Satisfactory outcome of fingerprint/background check

Minimum qualifications for Substitute Instructional Assistants are:

  • High school Diploma or GED
  • Ability to speak, read, and write English in order to carry out duties
  • Satisfactory outcome of fingerprint/background check

Salary range for substitute teachers is from $75 to $90 per day, or as high as $120 per day for long-term, certified teachers. Instructional assistants earn $65 per day.
