In Northside ISD, the family that plays together could win $1,000. That was the case for Nicole Ramirez who won $1,000 for exercising with her three young daughters in last summer’s San Antonio Sports Fit Family Challenge. The next winner could be you.
The 2013 San Antonio Sports Fit Family Challenge kicks off its fourth year at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, at Port San Antonio. The Ramirez family says they will be there along with hundreds of other Northside families. The 12-week, family-friendly summer program is free and open to all NISD families.
The Challenge runs from May 18-August 10 with 101 free events citywide. Families are encouraged to exercise for an hour a day, six days a week, and pledge to make healthy food choices. Families who track their activities and food selections on an official Fit Family Challenge tracking log are eligible to win a $1,000 prize at one of four “Big Events."
- May 18 at Port San Antonio
- June 8 at Hardberger Park
- June 29 at Northside’s Gustafson Stadium
- July 20 at Brooks City Base
“Tracking helps me to keep going and to stay motivated along with the fact that I have my family there with me,” said Ramirez. “That makes it so much easier and fun.”
“It is inspiring to see so many of our Northside families at events,” says Lydia Martinez, NISD’s Director of Adult and Community Education, who coordinates NISD’s participation in the Fit Family Challenge. “Every year of the Fit Family Challenge program, Northside families have won cash prizes. So far, they have won a total of $8,000.”
