The NISD Special Education Program is hosting its annual Community Resource Fair for families of students with disabilities on Wednesday, Nov. 1  from 1 – 4 p.m. at the Northside Activity Center, 7001 Culebra Road.

Friends of Northside Libraries (FONL) is hosting “An Evening with the Authors” on Friday, Nov. 10 from 6-9 pm at Harlan HS, 14350 Culebra Road. The event is described as being compared to musical chairs with authors or speed dating with authors.

“This is Northside” features the sights and sounds of dedication activities for NISD’s newest high school. John M. Harlan served as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1877 to 1911.

The annual NISD College Night will be held Monday, Oct. 30 from 6-8:30 p.m. drawing 140 colleges and universities from across the nation. Thousands of NISD students are expected to attend the event which will be held in the Recreation and Wellness Center at the University of Texas at San Antonio on the Loop 1604 campus.

Students at Briscoe MS received a close-up, first-hand civics lesson when their campus custodians took the oath of allegiance to become U.S. citizens. The school held a reception to honor the pair, and students in U.S. History classes joined in celebration as a way to learn more about the citizenship process.

Raymond Turco & Associates, a public opinion research firm, has been commissioned to conduct a comprehensive survey of NISD parents and community members concerning a potential bond election.  The intention of this survey is to better understand the opinions of the district’s stakeholders.

There wasn’t a lot of time. Just nine school days after meeting in the culinary classroom at brand-new Harlan High School, a team of students and their teacher spent a Saturday morning taking part in a “Top Chef” style competition at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA).

And 8,000 miles away in Austin, Michelle Fiedler Mikesh is helping those with permanent nerve damage to feel again.

Around 106,000 students and 7,000 teachers headed back to the classroom when 119 schools re-opened on Monday. Joining the District are two new schools, John M. Harlan High School and Nathan Kallison Elementary School.
