Jefferson Middle School and its mentors and mentoring programs won three of the top awards presented by the  San Antonio Mentoring Forum, a county wide student mentoring collaborative.  They were recognized during the 3rd Annual Texas Mentoring Summit, a state wide mentoring conference.

Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: approved $579,000 of High School Allotment funds to subsidize AP exams for students, approved an audit of the District’s financial report, and appointed six campus administrators and two Central Office positions.

The flu season is upon us. Northside ISD  is seeing a small increase in illness outbreaks at some schools, although not all cases are the flu but also are seasonal allergies and colds. NISD has more than 103,000 students in 116 schools.

For 42 years, the Walter Gerlach Livestock Show and Sale has been a Northside ISD tradition that has quietly raised nearly $13 million in college scholarships for students. This year’s event will again draw hundreds of students and livestock bidders. It will also be dedicated to long-time show supporters Harold (Butch) and Cindy Galm.

​One of the items approved by voters in School Bond 2014 was the expansion of bullet-resistant security lobbies at 30 elementary schools at a cost of $2.3 million. The first one was built last summer at Ellison Elementary School as a pilot.

Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: renamed the Northside Excel Academy after its longtime leader, approved the designs for security lobbies at 8 elementary schools, approved legislative priorities for 2015, received a report that 100 percent of NISD teachers are “Highly Qualified," and appointed the Director of Elementary Administration.

Northside ISD announces that 100 percent of teachers are classified as "Highly Qualified." In accordance with Section 2141 of the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act and the Texas State Highly Qualified Teacher Plan, the local education agency (LEA) is required to submit a report annually on whether the academic subject area classes are being taught by Highly Qualified Teachers.
