This message is to inform you that within the past few days area agencies became aware of a threat being made toward a San Antonio-area elementary school. The threat was not specific to any particular school, but did allude to possible violence being committed on the morning of April 24. While this may well be a hoax, we have to treat the threat seriously.
Technology plays a significant role in instruction, and School Bond 2014 would provide more computers and mobile devices for student and staff use. The $47 million earmarked for technology projects would also provide upgrades to District-wide infrastructure.

Once again, Northside is expecting a large kindergarten enrollment for the upcoming school year, making it all the more critical that parents register their children during Kinder Roundup in order to secure a seat at their neighborhood school. More than 7,500 kindergarten students are expected to enroll for the 2014-15 school year.
Northside ISD is holding a Transportation Job Fair to fill 150 positions for bus drivers. The job fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, April 7 at the Culebra Transportation Station, 7001 Culebra Road.

More than half of the funding proposed in School Bond 2014, fifty five percent, would be used to be pay for improvements to existing Northside schools. More than half of Northside’s schools are more than 20 years old and some were built as early as the 1950s and 1960s.
Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items- approved Summer School programs and Summer High School Principal, adopted instructional materials for the 2014-2015 school year, and appointed an assistant principal for Brandeis High School.

Warren High School will host a “Student Aid San Antonio” Saturday event this Saturday, March 22, to help students and parents apply for college financial aid. The event is free and open to students from all NISD high schools.

School Bond 2014, a proposal for $648.34 million, adds 409 new classrooms to manage continuing growth and renovates older schools to meet curriculum requirements and current standards. In fact, the majority of the proposal renovates existing, older neighborhood schools.

Congratulations to Northside School District’s 210 campus first year and veteran educators of the year for the 2013-14 school year. These individuals will be recognized at special celebrations in their honor beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Brennan High School auditorium.
This week is School Breakfast Week and Northside is celebrating by inviting students to “Rise and Shine Texas Style!”
The 46th annual NISD Special Olympics ceremonies scheduled for Monday and Tuesday have been canceled due to the cold weather. The remainder of the week continues as scheduled for March 5-7 at Gustafson Stadium.
The 2014 Northside Education Foundation (NEF) 5K Run/Walk and Family Wellness Fair, presented by AXA, takes place Saturday, March 29. In 2013, almost 5,000 participated, setting a record for NEF and the need to super-size from NISD's Dub Farris Stadium to SeaWorld.
Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: approved the District’s 2015-2016 school calendar, approved the use of District High School Allotment funds to subsidize AP exams, recognized several award-winning teachers and administrators, appointed several campus administrators including the new principal at Blattman ES, and discussed a name for a new elementary school.
