April marks the nation’s Month of the Military Child. As a way to honor military youth affected by deployment, school district employees and students across the state are encouraged to wear purple on Thursday, April 6, as part of “Purple Up! for Military Kids.”
Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: approved Summer School programs, adopted instructional materials, and appointed six campus administrators including a middle school principal.
Once again, Northside is expecting a large kindergarten enrollment for the upcoming school year, making it all the more critical that parents register their children during Kinder Roundup in order to secure a seat at their neighborhood school. More than 7,500 kindergarten students are expected to enroll for the 2017-18 school year.

Northside ISD is working to address children's nutritional needs by opening two campus cafeterias during Spring Break, March 13-17, to provide a no-cost, hot breakfast and lunch to area students.
Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: held a public hearing on the District’s Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR); approved the use of high school allotment funds to subsidize AP exams for students; and appointed five campus administrators including an elementary principal.
Students at Driggers Elementary School learned about being heart healthy during a three-week Jump Rope for Heart campaign. The American Heart Association campaign included raising money to help children with heart issues. The students set a goal to raise $3,000 and exceeded that goal while having fun along the way.

Allen ES kicked off National Children's Dental Health Month with a visit from the dentist. More than 200 students received free dental exams and a lesson on dental hygiene when a group of dentists and dental assistants from the City of San Antonio Metro Health Dental Program visited the school.

The 44th Annual Walter Gerlach Livestock Show and Sale proved to be a record- breaking year, raising more than $900,000 in scholarships for Northside ISD students. The week-long event turned out nearly 800 entries to include pigs, goats, lambs, rabbits, poultry, steer, and mechanical agriculture products.

Folks MS students are growing herbs and vegetables with the help of an indoor tower garden purchased through an NEF grant. In their Family and Consumer Science Class students are learning about food sustainability, the science behind food production, and are receiving hands-on experience by growing and sometimes pollinating their own food.

The Eco Friends Club at Kuentz ES is setting the example to clean up the environment with a huge recycling program. Since the organization formed back in 2011, the students at Kuentz have collected more than 2 million recycling items to include plastic and aluminum.
