The Stevens High School Police Explorers program is in its first year of being a school organization and they are making great strides in preparing students for a future career. The after school program is teaching students real life police skills with on-hands training.

Two Warren HS students witnessed state government firsthand by testifying before the Texas Senate Veteran Affairs and Border Security Committee on a “Student to Soldier” bill. The students were in Austin testifying on SB 1152, a bill drafted by Warren HS Assistant Principal Venissia Villarreal in conjunction with Senator Jose Menendez, which would allow students to choose the Career Readiness path by enlisting in the military.

University Health System is offering a convenient way for parents to stay up-to-date with their child’s immunizations. They will dispatch a mobile clinic to six NISD campuses in April. Flu shots are also available for students.

Once again, Northside is expecting a large kindergarten enrollment for the upcoming school year, making it all the more critical that parents register their children during Kinder Roundup in order to secure a seat at their neighborhood school. More than 7,500 kindergarten students are expected to enroll for the 2017-18 school year.

Northside ISD is holding an Auxiliary Job Fair to fill more than 195 positions for bus drivers, food service workers, food service manager trainees, police officers, custodians, and maintenance workers.

Seth Juarez, a 5th grader at Lewis Elementary School, is the grand prize winner in the 2017 Texas Cavaliers River Parade Art Contest. He was one of four NISD elementary student finalists.

This year’s NISD Special Olympics attracted more than 1,500 special athletes to compete in various track and field events at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. The theme for the 48th annual competition was “Special Olympian Superpowers” and athletes showed their superpowers in super ways as they worked their way to the finish line.

Northside ISD is working to address children's nutritional needs by opening two campus cafeterias during Spring Break, March 13-17, to provide a no-cost, hot breakfast and lunch to area students.
