The State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) will be administered again this spring 2014. The STAAR measures the statewide curriculum in Reading at Grades 3-8; in Writing at Grades 4 and 7; in Mathematics at Grades 3-8; in Science at Grades 5 and 8; and in Social Studies at grade 8.
NAMS North students will be taking the STAAR test in April.
April 1st and 2nd—7th graders will take the STAAR writing test.
8th graders will take the STAAR math and reading tests.
April 22nd—6th and 7th graders will take the STAAR math test.
8th graders will take the STAAR social studies test.
April 23rd—6th and 7th graders will take the STAAR reading test.
8th graders will take the STAAR science test.
May 5th—STAAR Algebra test for students who are taking high school algebra in 8th grade.
The Student Success Initiative (SSI) requires that Grade 8 students must meet the passing standard on the STAAR in reading and mathematics before they can be promoted to the next grade level. Students who do not pass the test in April will be given retakes in May.
Help your child be successful on the test. All students need to attend school on the testing days. Ensure that your child goes to bed early the night before the tests and that he/she has a good breakfast on the mornings of the tests. Call NAMS North if you need more information or have questions about the STAAR test.
