Welcome to John Marshall Law and Medical Services Magnet School

The John Marshall Law and Medical Services Magnet will open in fall 2019 at John Marshall High School.

It is Northside’s sixth magnet high school and the first to open since 2009. Approximately 175 students will comprise the inaugural freshmen class. Current eighth graders from NISD middle schools can apply to attend.

Margaret Bray, formerly the vice principal at Business Careers High School, was appointed the first principal of the school.

The innovative program will offer courses in the areas of Medical Services; Police, Law & Legal Services; and Legal Governance and Public Administration.

“We will not only be breaking ground with the construction of a new building, but also in terms of the course selection we will offer,” said Bray. “Marshall LMS will be offering students the opportunity to engage in a course of study that will prepare them for careers in the legal and medical fields. We will also provide a transformative learning experience in which students can apply the skills they gain in a multitude of careers and in the process become lifelong learners and critical thinkers.”

Medical Services will include EMT, Physical Therapy, Mental Health, and Licensed Vocational Nursing. (LVN). Police, Law and Legal Services will include Public Safety, Court Systems, and Legal Research and Writing. The Governance and Public Administration area of study will include Political Science, Planning and Governance, and Diplomacy.

Students will have the opportunity to take Dual Credit and Advanced Placement courses, earn industry-recognized certifications, and gain hands-on experience to prepare them for college and careers. They will also be able to participate in Marshall High School activities including fine arts, athletics, spirit, and Navy ROTC.

A new building to house the school will be constructed in the coming years, thanks to voter-approved School Bond 2018.

Students and families can learn more about the program at the Magnet School Fair, Open Houses, and middle school recruiting visits.
