Learning Tree Scholarship Program

The Dr. John Folks Scholarship Program strives to make the Learning Tree program accessible to as many students as possible. The goals of the program are to provide a safe place for students to engage in productive activities during the after school hours, and to promote parental involvement in order to stress the importance of the parent role in their child's education. A limited number of tuition waivers are available.

In order to be considered for this scholarship, the following criteria must be met:

*Pay the standard registration fee per child ($30 per year.)

*Qualify for financial hardship based on the Federal Income Eligibility Guidelines for Determing Free and Reduced Price Benefits. Proof of income will need to be provided (2016 Income tax return must show child included in scholarship application as a dependent).  

*Have a child care need (working parents or attending school, legal guardian grandparents, or foster parents.) Proper/legal documentation will be needed to support child care need.   

Requirements to maintain the scholarship:

  • Student will maintain 90% attendance in school and Learning Tree.  Children enrolled at the elementary level may not be checked out before 5 pm.  Middle school students may not be checked out before 5:15 pm.  
  • Student wll maintain a 75 average or a "Satisfactory" grade every grading period.
  • Student will receive no more than 2 discipline referrals per school year.
  • Parent will participate in at least one parent involvement activity per month with campus and/or Learning Tree.

All applications will remain on file for the school year in which they are submitted. Committee decisions will be final and are not subject to appeal.  

 Application Process for the 2017-2018 school year will be available on May 1st.   To begin the application process, please select the Dr. Folks Scholarship Program Application.

Fees for Tuition Based Sites

Registration fee is $30 per child; non-refundable

Monthly Tuition

Elementary: $210 monthly, September – May

Middle School: $150 monthly, September - May

Tuition is based on 177 school days. There is no additional charge for August or June.


Discounts for siblings: $20 discount for 2nd child, $40 discount for 3 or more children. Scholarships and additional discounts may be available, please contact your Program Specialist for more information.


Payments for Tuition Based Sites

Payment is due on the first of each month. On the sixth day, a late fee of $25 is added to the tuition payment.

MySchoolBucks charges a 3.25% transaction fee on the total amount for all credit cards/debit cards. Check payments transaction fees are $1.75. 

There are four ways to make payments.

We are open Monday-Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. Check, money order, or cash only; we cannot accept credit cards in the office. The office is closed on district holidays.


Additionally, NISD employees have the option of payroll deduct.
