Calvert’s Corner

I wanted to take a brief minute to introduce myself. My name is Mr. Calvert. I was born here in San Antonio. I’m married and a proud parent of a soon to be seven year old. I have been with Northside for 17 years now. I began as a teacher’s assistant, became a teacher, and was also a behavioral specialist. I say that to prove that you too can start at the bottom and move up. As your counselor, my philosophy is to inspire students to achieve high standards of excellence. I meet with all students individually, work with our staff to identify your needs, conference with students, facilitate small groups to address social and emotional needs, and help students connect with community resources and outside professionals as needed. It is my hope that you realize what a great opportunity you have in your grasp. Some of you have made choices in the past that you have come to regret. Excel Academy is the place that you can correct that mistake(s). I am proud of each and every one of you for stepping up to the plate and taking control of your destiny. You may think that a high school diploma is no big deal. Try not having one. Look around. Times are hard for many people. Employers are in the position to be picky about whom they hire because a lot of people are looking for work now. So what does this all mean to you? It’s simple: keep your eye on the prize, get this thing done, make your family proud, and be an inspiration to the generations to follow.
