Board of Trustees

Elected by the people to govern Northside Schools, Trustees are the guardians of the public trust and, through the policies they make, are ultimately responsible for our schools. This responsibility and the accessibility of Trustees to the voters make the Board one of the purest examples of democracy in our society.

Northside Trustees represent about 208,000 households located in 355 square miles in northwest Bexar County and parts of Medina and Bandera counties. Northside continues to be the “destination” district in San Antonio for many families seeking a quality school system for their children and for employees seeking a quality place to work.

August 5, 2013

Northside ISD is enforcing its “No Shots, No School” policy, which means students who are not up-to-date on immunizations will not be allowed to attend classes when the 2013-14 school year begins on Aug. 26.

Starting with the 2012-2013 school year, over 50,000 elementary-aged students in Northside began benefitting in a collaborative effort between the Health and Physical Education Department, Child Nutrition Department, and the Learning Tree After-School program thanks to a three-year $2.6 million Federal Carol M. White Physical Education Program grant.

You’ve probably seen the Energy Star label on household appliances like washing machines and dishwashers, but it can also apply to schools. Martin Elementary School and Warren High School are the first schools in Northside, and the first schools in a San Antonio-area school district, to earn the Energy Star label.

The elementary menu and the middle/high schools menu for the 2013-2014 school year have been announced. Prices are $1 for breakfast and $2 for lunch at the elementary level and $1.00 for breakfast and $2.25 for lunch at the secondary level.

Northside ISD offers free, half-day pre-kindergarten for eligible four-year-old students in their neighborhood schools. About 2,900 pre-kindergarten students are projected for the 2013-2014 school year.

Northside ISD will open three new schools when classes resume on Aug. 26.  Kay Franklin and Dr. Sara McAndrew elementary schools, and Dr. John Folks Middle School will join the 112 other schools that make up South Texas’ largest school district.  Their new logos are joining the NISD family of school mascots.    More than 101,000 students are expected to enroll for the 2013-14 school year.

Dr. Carol Harle was sworn in as a Northside ISD trustee Tuesday night. She replaces District 6 Trustee Randy Fields, who decided not to run for re-election after serving on the Board since 1999.
