Board of Trustees

Elected by the people to govern Northside Schools, Trustees are the guardians of the public trust and, through the policies they make, are ultimately responsible for our schools. This responsibility and the accessibility of Trustees to the voters make the Board one of the purest examples of democracy in our society.

Northside Trustees represent about 208,000 households located in 355 square miles in northwest Bexar County and parts of Medina and Bandera counties. Northside continues to be the “destination” district in San Antonio for many families seeking a quality school system for their children and for employees seeking a quality place to work.

Northside ISD students continue to excel and receive numerous honors and awards. Below are students who have been named National Merit Semifinalists or Commended Scholars, scholar finalists in the 2013-14 National Hispanic Recognition Program, and National Achievement Scholar semifinalists.

January 9, 2014

More than 600 NISD string students will have the opportunity of a lifetime when they learn from and perform with Mark Wood, a string master and founding member of the internationally- acclaimed Trans Siberian Orchestra. On Jan. 17 and 18, students will participate in Woods’ innovative program “Electrify Your Strings (EYS),” an intensive rock and roll workshop for school music education departments that boosts student self-esteem and motivation.

Denton Guyer High School defeated Brennan High School 31-14 to win the 4A Division 1 State Championship Dec. 20 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The Northside ISD Board of Trustees is seeking nominations for a name for its newest elementary school scheduled to open in 2015.

Northside ISD joined 14 other Bexar County school districts to launch Go Public, a campaign to inspire support for local public schools and highlight the positive, life-changing teaching happening in our schools every day.

With the input of over 5,000 citizens, parents and staff as well as the commentary from three focus groups totaling another 600 people, the 2013-2018 Strategic Plan was written and ultimately approved by the School Board.

The newest member of the Northside ISD Police Department is already the top dog. In August, the department welcomed its first K9, Alice. The two year old Belgian Malinois, a breed often used by law enforcement and military agencies, is trained to sniff out drugs.

More than 112,000 meals are served in a day at Northside ISD, making it San Antonio’s largest restaurant operation! In honor of National School Lunch Week, which runs Oct. 14-18, the District is encouraging parents and patrons to stop by their local school cafeteria and see how school cafeteria food has changed.

The Northside Swim Center will make a big splash in 2015 as host of three prestigious national swimming events. Olympic gold medalist Josh Davis, joined officials from Northside ISD, Bexar County, and SA Sports in announcing details.

NISD will hold its second annual Declaration of Respect Signing Day on Wednesday, Oct. 9 with students across the District signing certificates pledging to demonstrate respect for themselves and all others through their interactions at school.
