Board of Trustees

Elected by the people to govern Northside Schools, Trustees are the guardians of the public trust and, through the policies they make, are ultimately responsible for our schools. This responsibility and the accessibility of Trustees to the voters make the Board one of the purest examples of democracy in our society.

Northside Trustees represent about 208,000 households located in 355 square miles in northwest Bexar County and parts of Medina and Bandera counties. Northside continues to be the “destination” district in San Antonio for many families seeking a quality school system for their children and for employees seeking a quality place to work.

Rosio Martinez-Apolinar, a fourth grade teacher at Glenoaks Elementary School, was told by her principal, Maria Elena Meza, to bring her students to the gym for an all-school goal-setting assembly Tuesday morning.  She had no idea it was all a ruse.

There wasn’t a lot of time. Just nine school days after meeting in the culinary classroom at brand-new Harlan High School, a team of students and their teacher spent a Saturday morning taking part in a “Top Chef” style competition at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA).

Kristina Riffle Semukete, a former Northside ISD teacher and NEF grant recipient, founded the Obwaagazi Children’s Foundation in Uganda to give special needs children the chance to attend school. And 8,000 miles away in Austin, Michelle Fiedler Mikesh is helping those with permanent nerve damage to feel again.

Northside ISD has launched a new mobile app to improve communication between the District and campuses and our school community.

Around 106,000 students and 7,000 teachers headed back to the classroom when 119 schools re-opened on Monday. Joining the District are two new schools, John M. Harlan High School and Nathan Kallison Elementary School.

Northside will be moving to a new gradebook at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year and along with this comes a new parent/guardian portal called the Home Access Center (HAC).  The HAC will be replacing the existing gradebook found on Parent Connection.

Last night, Trustees discussed and took action on several items: approved a salary raise for all employees, adopted a $1.3 billion budget for 2017-2018, and appointed several campus and district administrators.
