Special 50th yearbook sale ends soon

The fiftieth edition of the Holmes/Business Careers HS yearbook is still on sale, and, according to adviser Martha Singleton, it will be one that any Husky, past or present, will want to own.

“While the book will center on this year’s student body and activities, there will be many interesting tidbits celebrating the past 50 years,” Singleton said.

Anyone who wants to purchase a yearbook must act quickly, however, because the sale ends Dec. 13.

“We can’t order extras,” Singleton explained, “so now is the time to place the order. Anyone who waits until spring is going to be severely disappointed. I always have parents and seniors who didn’t order by deadline asking me in May, ‘Can’t I get one from the publishing company?’ but the answer is no, because they only print what I order, and the deadline for ordering is in December.”

There are added features that will make this book worth owning.

“One of the things that will be interesting and entertaining is that there will be a timeline running through the book, noting highlights of each school year, as well as historical and cultural events,” she said.

The staff will also be embedding various video clips throughout the book, that can be uploaded to smart phones using a free app.

For those who do judge a book by its cover, this is a special year, too, because the art for the cover is by 1994 graduate and noted pop artist Ray Scarborough, known in art circles as “TattoedBoy.”  Scarborough’s work has been featured on Conan and at ComicCon, and is part of a display at the Institute of Texan Cultures. He designed a line of Zippo lighters, and does work for various bands and concerts.

“The cover is amazing, and anyone who owns a book will own limited edition, collectable art by Ray,” Singleton said.

The yearbook also comes with a DVD featuring video of school events, and coverage of spring sports.

The cost of the yearbook, which will be delivered before school ends in May, is $64. Students and parents may pay with cash, or check or money order payable to Holmes High School, in the journalism room, A102c.
