2013-14 District Elementary Educator of the Year is a...Wanke Lobo!

This is my 31st year of teaching. I began as a speech therapist/resource teacher in Victoria, Texas. I then moved to the valley (Mission, Texas) where I taught fifth grade for two years. I moved back home to Edna, my hometown, and taught 1 year as a 5/6 grade resource teacher. It was very special and important for me to go back home to teach for one year since they are the reason I was able to afford to even go to school. My academic scholarships came from the local G.I. Forum, the Knights of Columbus, and the Edna's Business Women's Association. I taught along my former teachers. I then married and moved to San Antonio where I began my NISD career at Meadow Village as a Early Childhood Teacher. After two years, I began to teach fourth grade there and found a love for that grade level. I transferred to Galm and continued teaching 4th grade and eventually became team leader at a very large campus. There were 10 on my grade level. When Mrs. Browne, my principal opened Lewis, she took me with her and I became the G/T teacher for the campus. I was split between Lewis and Oak Hills Terrace at one point working for Mr. Van Winkle and Mrs. Browne. When Mr. Van Winkle opened Wanke, I interviewed and became the new bilingual G/T teacher here and have been here the last 8 years. (27 years with NISD). Because I came with 80 boxes when I moved into Wanke and because I plan to be a Lobo for Life, it will be my home till I retire:)
