Student
Bus Safety Guidelines For The Morning Pick Up Service
BE AT THE BUS STOP EARLY. Have several minutes
before your bus is scheduled to arrive.
LEAVE HOME in plenty of time so you don't have
to run in the street.

Stay out of the areas around THE
SCHOOL BUS DANGER ZONES. Respect the "danger zone."
It is a 10-foot wide area surrounding the bus on all sides. When
waiting to board, remain far enough away from the bus so that
you can clearly see the driver's face. That's usually about 10
GIANT STEPS.
WAIT for the bus in a safe place, off the roadway
.
HORSEPLAY at the bus stop is prohibited. Never push while
getting on the bus.

APPROACH THE BUS in a single line without running or pushing
when you are sure that your driver has seen you.

After the bus stops and the door opens then you take firm
hold of the handrail and get onto the bus.

NEVER chase
a school bus after it has pulled away from the bus stop. Your
bus driver can't necessarily see you.
If you
have SCHOOL SAFETY PATROL, follow their directions.
Student
Bus Safety Guidelines During
The Bus Ride
Make sure the bus is stopped before you try to get on.
GO directly to an available or assigned seat as you enter
the bus.
When you get to your seat please sit quietly.
REMAIN SEATED and facing forward at all times while your bus
is moving.
Do not allow large objects such as musical instruments or
athletic equipment to block your bus aisles or emergency exits
.
Do not extend your hands, elbows or head through the windows.
You shouldn't be waving or sticking your head outside the
window.

Do not throw or pass objects to someone outside the bus.
Remain in your seat while the bus is in motion.
Keep the aisles clear.
Remain quiet and orderly.
When your bus driver gives you directions, follow them. When
your driver asks you to do something or stop doing something,
don't talk back or make a fuss.
Your bus driver can't keep asking a whole lot of kids to behave
on your bus and at the same time concentrate on safely driving
the bus.
Student
Bus Safety Guidelines For The Afternoon Drop Off Service
Never push while getting off the bus.
WATCH YOUR DRIVER to see when to cross the road.
NEVER run behind or in front of the school bus
to pick up something that you dropped, or forgot. Do not return
to the bus to pick up anything you left behind.
ALWAYS wait for the bus to move on and then pick
up what you dropped only after you see no other traffic.
MOVE AWAY FROM THE DANGER ZONE so the bus driver
can see you as soon as you leave the bus. The bus driver might
not see you come back to the bus.
Wait for the driver to signal that it is safe
for you to cross.
Walk far enough away from the bus so that you can see your
driver's face when it is necessary to cross the street upon boarding
or leaving the bus

YOU CAN LEAVE after your bus has pulled away.
Be sure to go home right after getting off the bus unless
you have permission from your parents to do otherwise.

It is great having an adult meet you at the bus stop since
you won't have to cross any busy streets unsupervised that way.
It's ok to tell
your bus driver or parents if someone is bothering you at the
bus stop or while you're on the school bus. Your parents and your
bus driver can only help if they know that something is wrong
on your bus.
