William Howard Taft
William H. Taft High School is named after the 27th President of the United States and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Taft was born on September 15, 1857. He graduated from Yale in 1878 and earned his law degree from the Cincinnati Law School. Taft believed that his highest honor was being appointed to the Supreme Court, a position he held for nine years. "The truth is," he stated, "that in my present life I don't remember that I ever was president." Taft died from a heart ailment one month after retiring from the Supreme Court, on March 8, 1930.
