8th Grade End of the Year Goodbye
Dance, “Fifties Night”
May 10, 2013, 6:30-9:30 p.m.
We wanted to fill you in on the details of the 8th grade end of the year goodbye dance, “Fifties Night.” It will be held at the school on Friday, May 10, 2013 from 6:30-9:30 p.m. We always plan it on an early release day, so that students will have plenty of time to get ready.
What to wear: PLEASE READ: The dress code must be followed.
The event is dress-up (NOT fifties dress-up). Girls may wear dresses with spaghetti straps, (halter and strapless dresses MUST HAVE WRAPS ON ALL NIGHT) or pants with a nice shirt or a skirt. Guys are fine in dress pants or nice jeans with a nice shirt. Girl’s dresses can be no shorter than four inches above the knee, same as our dress code allows in the school handbook, otherwise leggings must be worn. If you have any concerns, please check with an administrator.
During the dance from 7:30-8, we have an awards ceremony where we give out 34 awards to students, such as: president, comedian, actor, and many more. The students are nominating classmates for the awards on- line the week of , March 19, 20, and 21. The deadline for nominating is Friday, March 21 at 7p.m. The final ballot will be available on-line to vote on April 16, 17, and 18. The deadline for final voting is Friday, April 18 at 7p.m. The students may nominate and vote before school, after school, or at home by going to the Stinson Website. Please encourage your student to vote. Winners will be announced at the dance. Winners must be present to win.
At the dance, we also show a “Goodbye Video” from 8-8:30 p.m. Your student may purchase these videos at the dance for $15, if they wish. They will also be on sale in the mornings in the front foyer the week of the dance. Please make checks out to Storykeeping.
PARENTS, if you would like to add pictures to our video of your 8th grader, just save the pictures to a disk. You will need to label the disk with your child’s first and last name and their advisory teacher’s name. Have your child bring them to Ms. Goldstein in room C110 or leave them at the front desk.
The students will also have a photo booth with props to take pictures at the dance. There is no charge for the strand of four small pictures.
We do discourage limousines, dates, and flowers. We want the students to save those for their high school proms. If groups are going to eat out after the dance, the nearby restaurants have requested that you make reservations for large groups.
We do need volunteers to help sell tickets on Thursday, May 9 and Friday, May 10. We also need help decorating on May 10 starting at 2 p.m. We are looking for three caricaturists to do pictures for the students during the dance. This year, we need 4-5 helpers to run the fifties dinner from 6-9:45 p.m... Also, we need many volunteers to chaperone from 6:15-9:30 p.m.
