Welcome to Stevenson Middle School!
In order to establish and maintain a positive learning environment,
we will follow and enforce the student dress code as approved by
the Northside Board of Trustees and outlined in the Student-Parent
handbook.
While the staff at Stevenson
realizes that the parent bears the primary responsibility for setting
standards for their children’s
dress and grooming, there is no question that the influence of dress
and grooming affects both student attitude and behavior while at
school. Due to the potential negative and disruptive influence of
certain types and styles of clothing, certain restrictions must be
placed into effect in order to maintain an appropriate educational
setting. Common sense dictates the following restrictions:
• Dresses and skirts
must be no more than four inches above the kneecap. It is expected
that students wear appropriate footwear.
Steel toed shoes, flip flops and slippers are not considered to be
appropriate for school.
• Crop pants, Capri pants, and gauchos must be at least 4” below
the bottom of the kneecap.
• All pants must be full length and worn at the waist. Oversized
pants are not allowed. At no time should male’s or female’s
underwear be visible and pajamas are not acceptable. Spandex, bicycle
pants, and tights worn without an appropriate skirt are not permitted
for school. Similarly, cut-offs are not allowed.
• Hair must be kept
neat and clean. Unnaturally colored hair, multi-colored hair and
Mohawk styles are not appropriate. Headwear,
including all hats, are not to be worn in the building. Jackets with
hoods (head coverings) not permitted from 8:30-3:40. Hoodies and
hats must be kept in the locker.
• Suggestive, indecent
and/or disruptive clothing is not allowed. Oversized clothing,
muscle shirts, halter tops, spaghetti straps,
exposed backs or midriffs and see-through material are not acceptable.
Students t-shirts should not fall below the top of the kneecap.
• Body piercing
(other than traditional ear piercing) and tongue piercing are inappropriate.
Students who choose to ignore the dress and grooming guidelines
are subject to disciplinary actions.
Parents will be called and requested to bring an appropriate change
of clothes to the school. If the parent is unable to bring the requested
change of clothes, the student will be assigned to In School Suspension.
A second occurrence would result in ISS placement and overnight suspension,
requiring a parent conference with the appropriate administrator
before the student could return to school. Subsequent incidents could
result in suspension and possible placement into the Northside Alternative
Middle School.
