The Northside Special Education Program strongly believes that parents are an essential part of the success and reputation of our district. There are extensive opportunities for parent training.
- Parent Partners
In-home professionals assist parents with short-term goals and objectives which must be cooperatively addressed by home and school for some students.
- Parent Power
A six-hour training opportunity for parents of young children designed to practically address developmentally appropriate issues, behavior interventions and parent concerns with their own youngster.
- Parent Advisory Committee
Parents of students with disabilities work collaboratively with the Directors of Special Education and Psychological Services to improve the program. This group also works on special projects including workshops for parents of students with disabilities
Foster and Surrogate Parent Training
A two-hour MANDATORY training for all Foster and Surrogate Parents of students with disabilities attending Northside ISD (NISD). Training is a one-time requirement and specific to the special education process and special education law. Parents will receive a certificate of attendance, and once completed, the parent’s legal foster and surrogate parent training obligation with NISD Special Education is considered fulfilled.
