Although Northside has over 11,000 students identified as qualifying for special education and related services, our staff of nearly 2,000 teachers, instructional assistants, speech pathologists, special education coordinators, psychologists and other related service specialists is dedicated to providing the most individualized of a service as possible. In both federal and state law, the goal of special education is to help students with disabilities become as independent as possible as they move through the grade levels. Further, the law requires that each student should become employable, if possible, when they leave the educational setting. This may include opportunities to pursue post-high school education. Every program provided through special education is dedicated to these goals. The Special Education Program is not able to do this by itself. We cherish the partnerships we have built with every one of our parents in this effort. Our Parent Advisory Committee members and the Parent Handbook that they wrote and publish is clear evidence that Northside professionals and staff work collaboratively and positively with families. We welcome visitors to this information resource. We hope you will benefit from what you learn here and that you will visit this site often. If any of our staff may be of service to you, please contact us. We hope you enjoy learning more about the people and the services that are a part of the Special Education Program in the Northside Independent School District. 2009 |
