SEA Science and Engineering Fair |
The Science and Engineering Academy has held a school-wide science and engineering fair since 2004. Students display their independent research and are judged by experts in career fields related to the students' research. The scoring of projects is based on Creativity of Topic (30%), Scientific Thought (30%), Thoroughness (15%), Skill (15%), and Clarity (10%). Northside ISD middle schools are welcome to send participants to the SEA Science and Engineering Fair. |
Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Competitions |
32 counties, including Bexar, are served by the Alamo Regional Academy of Science and Engineering (ARASE). Founded in 1956 by Sister Joseph Marie Armer of Incarnate Word College, ARASE provides a forum for students to present their scientific research to the public through two competitions. The Alamo Regional Junior Academy of sciences competition is held each year in February on the UTSA campus. This competition requires students to give up to a 12 minute presentation and oral defense of their scientific research as well as submitting their written project for review. The Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair is a traditional competition in which students create a display board based on their research and engage in one-on-one discussions with judges about their work. The fair is held at St. Mary's University in March. In both competitions students can qualify to proceed on to State competitions in late March and early April. Dr. Joe H. Ward Award Presented the high school whose student demonstrated the best use of statistics in his/her scientific research and who participated in the Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair (established in 2011) . The Science and Engineering Academy first won this award in 2012.

Charles McGibbon High School Science Achievement Award Presented to the school accumulating the highest points for outstanding achievement in the Physics and Math/Computer categories at the Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair (established in 2008). The Science and Engineering Academy won this award four times: 2009 - 2012

Dr. Roger Harvey Award Presented by the Alamo Regional Academy of Science and Engineering for the highest cumulative score by a school participating in science research following protocols required by a Scientific Review Committee. (established in 1992) The Science and Engineering Academy has won this award six times: |
SA Best |
| The SA BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science, and Technology) competition is a contest held annually to inspire and interest students in the fields of science and engineering. With guidance from adult mentors, local teams of students design and build a remote controlled machine to accomplish a specific task. The students are given a box of raw materials from which to build the machine and 6 weeks to design and construct it. The task of the robot is kept secret until Kick-off Day, when all the teams are told what the robot is required to do. On Competition Day, all schools will compete head-on with each other in a thrilling science-fair-turned-sports-event. |

US First Robotics |
| The FIRST® Robotics Competition (FRC®) stages short games played by robots. The robots are designed and built in six weeks (from a common set of parts) by a team of high-school-aged young people and a handful of engineers-Mentors. The students program and remotely control the robots in competition rounds on the field. |

Science Bowl |
| The National Science Bowl® is a highly visible educational event and academic competition among teams of high school students who attend science seminars and compete in a verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions in all branches of science and math. The regional and national events encourage student involvement in math and science activities, improve awareness of career options in science and technology, and provide an avenue of enrichment and reward for academic science achievement. |
