ALE 1, 2, 3  

We are a post high Applied Learning Environment Classroom. Students come to us with a variety of ability levels. Many students focus on personal management, recreation leisure, communication and self advocacy and community skills. We focus on “real life” activities to help promote independence in the home and in the community. We try our best to provide many opportunities for students to explore interests so they may one day participate in these for a lifetime.

Community: Students are working on skills from staying with the group, money management, following a grocery list, scheduling VIA Trans, riding public transportation, reading a menu and much more.

Recreation Leisure: We provide many choices to students such as bowling, arcades, library, computers, cards and much more.

Kitchen: Some students are learning to feed themselves while others are planning and preparing their own meal. The students learn many skills during snack and lunch in the classroom such as appropriate table manners to socializing with peers.

Communication & Self Advocacy: Speaking up for yourself is a very important skill to have if you want to be independent. Students are offered choices throughout their day. We want them to feel as they are in control of their own environment. This is a very important area we work on in our classes.

Vocation: Many of our students work on their vocational goals in the post high work center. However, there are a some who need more of a structured environment and smaller groups. ALE 1 completes the laundry for the cafeteria. ALE 2 has a “gone green” club, collecting cans around the school and recycling.
