About A.L.E.
The A.L.E. Program uses an ecological approach. This means we teach students the skills they will need to be as independent as possible in the environments in which they live, work and play, now and in the future.
-
We believe that students with moderate and severe disabilities can learn and become more involved in the governance of their lives as active participants in our community.
-
We believe that their instruction should take place in age appropriate settings, participationg in age appropriate activities.
-
We belive that the students should be integrated when and wherever possible with students who do not have disabilities and that such contact will be instructive and beneficial to all.
-
We believe that such integration should occur on the age appropriate home campus or as close as possible.
-
We believe that students with moderate and severe disabilities require and are entitled to supportive envirnments and well trained staff.
-
We believe, and research supports, that students with moderate and severe disabilities will benefit most from instruction that is:
-
Functional
-
Occurs in the environment where it is to be persued
-
can be practiced or rehearsed over many years
-
addresses the needs of students to have good work skills, self-care skills, knowledge about their community and the ability to entertain themselves appropriately in recreation and leisure activities.
