Community Building Skills Classrooms

Students who are serviced in the Community Building Skills Classrooms receive instruction related to independence and employment skills. They  must be able to remain on task for 30 minutes up to a minimum of 1 hour while multi tasking.

Students do work jobs in the classroom to increase their time on task.

Students also learn to follow 1-2 step directions while on the job site up to following and understanding 2-3 step tasks while on the job site and perform tasks independently. The classrooms work with students who must start and finish a staff given task through starting and finishing a task independently and initiating the next step after completion. Students must be able to train in the community ½ day (tolerate peers, supervisors, and patrons in the public setting) 2-3 days per week to being able to train in the community ½ day in the morning and ½ day in the afternoon (tolerate peers, supervisors, and patrons in the public setting) or 5 days per week with 1 full day training site.

Students work in the Dining Room at Kingsly Place.

Community Building Skills Classrooms also help students learn/demonstrate appropriate grooming and dress for the work place through demonstrating appropriate hygiene skills and dress for the job independently. Students also learn work in a 1:4 or 1:5 staff/student ratio while in class or the community up to working in a minimum of 1:6 staff/student ratio while in class or in the community.
