February 2014 Newsletter

I hope everyone has had a great start to the month! We are now in February and our faculty has been very busy working closely with our students to support academic achievement. Classroom teachers are also monitoring students who are not meeting promotion requirements and scheduling conferences with parents for input and collaboration. After school tutoring will also begin this week for students who qualify for additional academic support in reading or math. Teachers have already notified parents of students who qualify for this additional intervention. We encourage parents to contact our teachers if you need additional academic resources to support your child at home. I have attached a research document that supports why it is critical for students to read nightly for 20 minutes. Please continue to support your child with nightly reading and review of math facts! Thank you!

Thank you everyone for supporting our Student Council fundraiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. We raised almost $6,000! Special congratulations to Ms. DeCock’s second grade students for collecting the most donations. They raised $381.64! We are so proud of her students for all of their efforts! We also want to congratulate Coach Resendiz and Coach Iverson for another successful Jump Rope for Heart fundraiser! They raised $5400! Our students were amazingly skilled with the jump ropes and we want to congratulate all of the grade level king and queen jumpers who made it to the end! Great job! Thank you to all of the fabulous parent volunteers who sacrificed their personal time to ensure the day was a huge success. It couldn’t have been done without you!

Congratulations to our Ott PTA Executive Board for receiving recognition at the district’s PTA Founder’s Day last week for a 3% membership increase. This is so wonderful and exciting! Our PTA has had an amazing year and we applaud their remarkable efforts! Please mark your calendars for our 10 year anniversary celebration carnival scheduled for March 21st from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. PTA is planning a spectacular event with lots of games, prizes, and food! Please contact the PTA at Ottpta@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering for the event.

The district recently installed “No Parking Signs” along the red curbs in the parking lot. Please remember these curbs are fire lanes and are designated “No Parking” areas. Additionally, parents please do not drop off your child in the parking lot to cross the crosswalk alone during morning drop-off. For obvious safety concerns children need to be crossed by a parent or responsible adult. Please remember to be cautious of students and parents walking to and from school while driving during the morning and afternoon. Erratic driving can cause accidents and injuries. We understand heavy traffic is a concern, but please be patient. Student and parent safety is always a priority!

Please remember students will be required to attend school on February 17th due to the bad weather day from January 24th. Please join us for Chick-fil-A family night on February 20th from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and don’t forget to tell the cashier you are an Ott Trailblazer! Also, we will be celebrating Western Day on February 21st and encourage all of our Trailblazers to dress in their best western duds in honor of the day. Lastly, please visit the Northside ISD website to learn more about the School Bond 2014. The majority of the money being elected will be used to improve existing schools. The election will be held on May 10, 2014.

As always thank you for supporting your child’s academic success!

Have a fantastic month!
