Reflections- Reflections is a fine arts program sponsored by the National PTA in which student entries are judged in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography, and the visual arts. Safe Teen Driving Week-October 31-November 4

NASCAR Nationwide Event- On November 2nd from 11:30-5:30 O’Connor PTSA will be hosting the NASCAR Nationwide Event to highlight the dangers of distracted driving. Students will have the opportunity to take a lap in the simulator with no distractions and once again while texting to see the difference. A NASCAR car will be on display as well as the wreckage of a truck whose teenage driver flipped it, but walked away because he and his passenger were wearing their seat belts. Other community and state services will be on hand. The community is welcome to attend after school from 4:05 to 5:30.

Road Rules-November 2, 7:00pm, Library. This presentation informs the audience of the causes of car crashes and the steps parents can take to help their teen drivers be safer behind the wheel.

Teen Dating Violence/Healthy Teen Relationships-January 24 6:30pm, Library. Presented by NISD Guidance and Counseling Department, parents and students will learn the definition of a healthy teen relationship and what to do if your child is in an unhealthy teen-teen relationship.

Remember Alex Brown-February 15, 4:30pm, Auditorium. Alex Brown, a Texas high schooler, lost her life in a single-car accident due to texting while driving. Today, Alex’s family travels around Texas to local high schools with Alex’s wrecked truck on their flat-bed trailer to remind young people of the dangers of distracted driving. (Some of you may have seen the Extreme Home Makeover episode in which a Remember Alex Brown assembly was featured.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3akdXT_2Y8&feature=related Come listen to her family’s compelling story and take the pledge not to text and drive.

Care Bear Project-April. Donate your gently loved stuffed animals during the donation drive and they will be given to the San Antonio Police Department’s Sex Crimes & Family Violence Prevention program. These stuffed animals are used when their patrol officers are called to a scene where children are involved and are in need of comfort.

Prom Promise-Week of May 7th. Students sign the banner pledging not to drink and drive the night of Prom and sport bracelets indicating they have taken the pledge. They are encouraged to review and sign the parent-teen contract with their parents.
