Accelerated Reader is a reading motivation program used at Northwest Crossing Elementary. The program is an easy to use computer-based program that inspires students to read more often.
To participate in the program students must first read specially marked books on their reading level which is established by their teacher. After reading the book, the students then go to the computer to take a test on their comprehension of the story and/or information. Students in First Grade through Fifth Grade take the test independently. When the test is completed, the computer instantly reveals how many questions he or she answered correctly and awards points based on the book's length, reading level, and number of correct answers. If the student passes the test the teacher can be sure he or she really has read the book.
The computer keeps a record of all the books a student has read and how many points are earned. Every four to six weeks the students may redeem their points for a variety of items at the Accelerated Reader Store. Our goal is to help each of our students become life long enthusiastic readers!
