Northside ISD's Board of Trustees has been named a Regional Honor Board of the Year, and the District's nomination now will be forwarded to a statewide selection committee for Texas' Outstanding School Board competition.

The NISD Board was selected by a screening committee for the Region 20 Education Service Center, an arm of the Texas Education Agency. Region 20 includes 51 school districts in 15 counties in South Central Texas.

"Our Board is so deserving of this honor," Superintendent John Folks said. "I am so fortunate to work for a District with a Board of Trustees that has the ability to look beyond personal differences and work together to make decisions that are in the best interests of children."

Members of the Northside Board of Trustees are:
"Northside has achieved nationwide recognition for our success in educating all of our diverse student groups," Reed said. "This is because we have a great Superintendent and Board members who have always worked well together as a ‘team of eight.' None of us are here because of any hidden agendas. Our purpose is to do what is best for our students."

The Texas Association of School Administrators created the School Board Awards Program in 1971 to recognize school boards whose dedication and ethical service have made a positive impact on the children of Texas. The criteria emphasize evidence of support for educational performance improvement.

The Northside Board of Trustees last was named a statewide Honor Board in 2000.

All regional and honor boards will be recognized in September at the TASA/TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) Convention, the largest gathering of educational leaders in the state.
