Effective July 2011, there is a new Federal Requirement to raise student paid pricing. In complying with this mandate, NISD will raise student paid pricing by the smallest increase allowed, $.05 cents per student lunch meal. This is a requirement of Federal Law; NISD did not want to increase pricing.

Once again, Northside is expecting record-breaking kindergarten enrollment for the upcoming school year, making it critical that parents register their children now in order to secure a seat at their neighborhood school. More than 7,300 kindergarten students are expected to enroll for the 2011-12 school year.

Schools and teachers grapple with massive impending cuts from the state
The Board of Trustees Tuesday night voted to save first-year probationary teachers' jobs but at the same time directed the superintendent to prepare a budget recommendation that will cut an additional 705 positions through attrition next school year. The Board is expected to vote on the recommendation at the April 26 Board meeting.
In Northside ISD, the wheels on the bus go round and round over 8.2 million miles every year, getting 60,000 students to and from school every day.

Three first-year and three veteran teachers were named District Educators of the Year at special celebrations held annually to honor teachers who give 100 percent when it comes to improving the lives of children. In addition, Northside's Nominee for the 2011 Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching was announced.
