The Northside Swim Center continues to make a big splash in the world of swimming and diving competitions when approximately 330 champion divers from across the country compete next week. On April 6-10, Northside School District’s world-class facility will host the USA Diving Synchronized National Championships.

Once again, Northside is expecting a large kindergarten enrollment for the upcoming school year, making it all the more critical that parents register their children during Kinder Roundup in order to secure a seat at their neighborhood school. More than 7,500 kindergarten students are expected to enroll for the 2016-17 school year.

Northside ISD is holding a Job Fair for teaching positions at 10 specific, secondary schools to fill expected vacancies for the 2016-2017 school year. Northside expects to eventually hire around 500 teachers in the next three months Districtwide.

 Northside's 11th comprehensive high school will open in August 2017 with around 1,600 students in grades 9 through 11 in a proposal that was presented to the NISD School Board.

Northside magnet schools offer a focused, career-specific education for students who show an interest in a particular field or know what career path they want to take. Today, about 3,000 students are enrolled in NISD’s five magnet high school programs.

Real life heroes visited 300 San Antonio area schools, including all of Northside's elementary schools for "Heroes for Health" rallies. Law enforcement officers, fire fighters, first responders, military personnel, and community leaders talked to children about the importance of staying fit and eating healthy. San Antonio Mayor Ivy Taylor was one of many speakers at Carson ES.

Three NISD teachers and one principal are finalists in the prestigious 2016 HEB Excellence in Education Awards, naming them among the best educators in Texas.

Three first-year and three veteran teachers were named District Educators of the Year at special celebrations held annually to honor teachers who give 100 percent when it comes to improving the lives of children. In addition, Northside’s nominee for the 2016 Trinity Prize for Excellence in Teaching was announced.

Natalie Tan, 5th grader at Locke Hill ES, is the grand prize winner in the 2016 Texas Cavaliers River Parade Art Contest. She was one of four NISD elementary student finalists.

Students at Business Careers HS are expanding their personal development and understanding of the business world with the help of mentors from the business community. The magnet school has about 140 mentors who meet with the students on a one-to-one basis

When you think of a badge, what comes to mind? For a teacher or administrator in NISD, it is a TECHIE Badge. TECHIE stands for Technology, Engage, Challenge, Hook, Inspire, and Educate.
