High school science students throughout NISD received honors at the following science competitions:

The Junior Academy of Science competitors presented their independent research projects to a panel of judges who cross examined the students about their work. Students qualified at the Alamo Regional Academy to advance to the State Academy of Science at Texas A&M. Students who earn a grand prize or first place at the state level are eligible to present their work at the national convention of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Students who competed at the Alamo Regional Science and Engineering Fair could qualify for the ExxonMobil Texas Science and Engineering Fair sponsored by UTSA and held here in San Antonio this spring. Students prepare poster presentations of their projects and are interviewed by panels of judges in this format.

Students qualify for the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair through either the regional or the state level competitions. This year, five Northside students and 1,600 other students from 54 nations competed at the international level in Reno, Nevada, earlier this month.

Corporate sponsors of ISWEEEP, the International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering, and Environment) Project invited more than 1,000 competitors from 51 countries to compete in categories of energy, environment, and engineering. This Houston competition focuses on research into sustainable uses of our resources.

The Junior Science & Humanities Symposium is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense and provides the opportunity for military dependent students overseas and stateside to compete with their civilian world colleagues in science and humanity fields.  Outstanding competitors at the state level advanced to the national level competition in Washington last month.
