NISD offers after-school care at 81 schools; register your children now

August 15, 2014

Registration for Northside ISD’s Learning Tree after-school care program is ongoing at 81 neighborhood schools including all elementary schools and six middle schools. Space is limited. Registration information can be found on the Learning Tree website or by calling 210-397-8108.

The award-winning after-school program currently has more than 5,100 students enrolled and is staffed with more than 450 highly-trained youth leaders and supervisors.

Each day, children receive homework time and assistance, enrichment and recreation guidance, and activities as well as a snack. The program also engages families by offering monthly events and information.

Learning Tree began as a grant-funded program in 1999 to offer academic, enrichment, social, and recreational experiences in a safe, supervised environment. The program is funded by several sources. Ten sites are funded by the 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant, six sites are funded by the City of San Antonio After School Challenge program, and 65 sites are tuition-based.

The Learning Tree programs are a function of the Adult and Community Education department under the direction of Lydia Martinez and Esther Buendia.
