NYC pianist/poet impacts students at Myers

December 16, 2013

ALPHA students at Myers ES were able to work with Vivian Skinner, a poet and pianist from New York City on some special activities.

Skinner performed a mini-concert that included Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart. Students learned to sing songs with classical melodies and poetry put to music. She also presented poetry that she wrote just for Myers ES that spoke of courage, persistence, and believing in oneself.

She gave each child a copy of her first and second grade report cards and asked the students to figure out mathematically how old she is, as well as note the characteristics that helped her succeed in life.

It was a real world lesson that will be remembered by these students for years to come.
