Northside ISD, in partnership with the San Antonio Sports’ Fit Family Challenge, is encouraging families to get moving this summer and exercise together. To help with this, NISD is offering FREE Zumba and Kid Fit classes each week throughout the summer at Linton Elementary School, located at 2103 Oakhill.

Northside ISD rejects a recently published Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts report that incorrectly concludes there is wasteful spending in school construction by unfairly comparing school construction costs in different parts of Texas.

Northside ISD offers free, half-day pre-kindergarten for eligible four-year-old students in their neighborhood schools. There are over 2,800 pre-kindergarten students projected for next school year.

It might be summer but school zones are in effect through the beginning of August, although the times are slightly altered. All Northside ISD campuses are used for either summer school programs or as drop off/pick up sites for students.

Campus nurses are busy this summer calling more than 5,000 students who may be delinquent in updating their vaccines due to an increase in shots required at various grade levels.

At the June 17 Board Meeting, Northside ISD Trustees approved a $20.9 million compensation package that will provide salary increases for more than 14,000 employees.  The raise includes a three percent  increase for all employees effective the new school year.

The Northside Learning Tree After School Program is seeking outgoing, energetic, and positive role models to fill youth leader and site leader positions. Applicants must complete the online application for each position and interviews will take place through the end of August.

To comply with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulations, Northside ISD will offer free meals to children from June 10-July 10 (Monday through Thursday). Last summer, NISD served more than 75,000 meals in one month. This year, free meals are available at 16 schools for children who are 18 years or younger.

NISD offers a wide variety of courses, from classes to allow students to take more advanced and varied courses during the regular school year; classes needed for remediation; enrichment courses and campus that allow students to explore and have fun while learning something new.

Thankfully the sun was shining brightly at the 18th Texas Solar Race Car Event held Saturday, May 10 at Gustafson Stadium. Two hundred and fifty two teams competed from 60 Northside elementary schools.
