Northside begins recruitment drive to hire almost 1,000 teachers for 08-09 school year
With a record five new schools set to open in August, the hunt starts today for almost 1,000 new teachers to replace retiring educators and to staff almost 300 new classrooms.
Between now and August, Northside’s enrollment is expected to increase by 3,100 students to a total of 88,598. Currently, almost 100 campuses are staffed by almost 6,000 teachers.
Northside is looking to hire certified educators only, particularly bilingual teachers and those who teach special education, math, science, English as a Second Language (ESL), and computer technology, said Jim Miller, Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources.
Those certified in these tough-to-fill areas will receive a stipend on top of an already competitive salary. Northside’s starting salary this year is $43,500 for new teachers right out of college with a bachelor’s degree. This figure is expected to go up this summer when the Board of Trustees adopts compensation packages for next school year.
“If you want to be part of a dynamic school district that offers mentorship programs and extensive resources to its teachers, then Northside is the place to be,” Miller said.
Prospective candidates should
apply online via the NISD
Human Resources web site. Previous applicants must update their application online this year to be considered for jobs for the 08-09 school year. The HR web site also posts
upcoming job fairs, which will be held almost daily through April.
As of Jan. 1, 2008, all prospective school district employees must be digitally fingerprinted and photographed as part of a criminal history background check required by state law. All applicants who are offered a position in a Texas school district will be required to pay a nonrefundable fee of $52.50 for the background check prior to employment.
Northside is the fourth largest district in Texas, and with the exception of Lackland AFB, NISD is the largest public sector employer in Bexar County with 13,000 employees. To learn more about San Antonio’s premier school district, see the
