January is School Board Recognition Month and Northside Independent School District (NISD) is joining other districts across the state to gratefully acknowledge the invaluable contributions trustees make to their communities.
"Volunteer school board members serve countless hours working to improve public education," said NISD Superintendent Dr. John Folks.
"School trustees have a tremendous responsibility preparing today's students-and tomorrow's leaders-for productive roles in our society. School board members are the voice of their communities, serving first and foremost in the best interest of our schoolchildren," said Folks.
"We proudly join educators and community members in saluting these education advocates as they provide leadership for student achievement, academic programs, district funding, and school facilities. Their service ensures that decisions about local public schools are made by those most familiar with the needs of the community's children and families," said Folks. "These individuals deserve recognition and thanks for their commitment and dedication to the continuing success of our students and schools," he said.
Serving on the NISD Board are: Katie N. Reed, District 5, President; M'Lissa M. Chumbley, District 3, Vice President; Karen Freeman, District 7, Secretary; George Lynn Britton, Jr., District 1; Annie L. Holmes, District 2; Robert (Bobby) Blount, Jr., District 4; and Randall H. (Randy) Fields, District 6
NISD Trustees will receive special recognition during the next regular Board meeting, Jan. 22, beginning at 6p.m. at the Northside Activity Center, Loop 410 and Culebra Road.
