Three schools celebrate golden anniversaries

October 7, 2011

Since Neff Middle School, Glenoaks Elementary School, and Westwood Terrace Elementary School opened 50 years ago, the schools have educated thousands of children and become cornerstones in the community.

When all three schools opened in 1961, there were just five schools in the District and enrollment was 5,545. Fifty years later, NISD has 112 schools and an enrollment of 97,439.

All three schools will hold 50th anniversary celebrations this year to honor their heritage as well as current and former employees and students.

The public is welcome to attend the anniversary events:

  • Neff Middle School, 5227 Evers Road – 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18,  6 p.m. (210-397-4100)

Anyone who attended or worked at any of these schools or have interesting photos or memorabilia to share/donate are encouraged to contact the school.

The NISD website offers plenty of historical information about the District, including opening dates and anniversaries of all campuses, biographies of all school namesakes, and a complete history of Northside ISD.

Community members who would like to be notified by email about upcoming school anniversaries and important NISD news can join Friends of Northside.
