Four campuses to benefit from Safe Routes to School grant

August 31, 2011

A grant of more than $1 million from the Texas Department of Transportation will help make sure students who walk or bike to four NISD schools will get there safely.

The Safe Routes to School grant has been awarded to Neff Middle School and Glass, Glenoaks and Powell elementary schools.

In addition to raising awareness about the benefits of walking and biking and how to do it safely at all four schools, the grant will fund construction to improve sidewalks, ramps, traffic signals, and signage at Glass and Neff.

More information about Safe Routes to School as well as a video explaining the program can be found on the District's Safe Routes to School website.

Kickoff events will be held at all four schools this fall.
