May 8, 2012

Emily Swoboda, an English teacher at Communications Arts High School, won the prestigious leadership award at the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards this past weekend in Houston.

Swoboda will receive $10,000 for herself and another $10,000 for her school. More than 4,000 nominations were submitted this year by H-E-B customers, employees, and community members.

In March, Swoboda was announced as a finalist in the leadership category, which honors teachers with 10 to 20 years of experience in the classroom.

More than $500,000 was awarded to educators and districts at the May 6 banquet, making the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards the largest monetary program for educators in the state.
