Mark Wood, a world renowned rock violinist with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, is bringing his groundbreaking music education program, Electrify Your Strings! (EYS), to NISD for a performance at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15 in the Marshall High School auditorium.
Orchestra students from Jay and Marshall high schools, Rayburn Middle School, and Fisher, Michael, Glenn, Lackland City, and Valley Hi elementary schools will perform in a live concert alongside the creator of the revolutionary Viper electric violin, SV Stringray, and Cobra cello.
Wood and the EYS team will spend two days working with the schools' orchestra directors and students to custom-design a rock orchestra makeover. Wood will perform with students Tuesday night on his handcrafted 7-string fretted electric Viper violin as part of his "Fire & Ice - Ignite The Passion Tour." The audience will hear Wood's original material, as well as his special arrangements of music by Led Zeppelin, Cream, The Beatles, and more.
"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for our students to work with a world renowned artist," said Heather Gonzalez, Orchestra Director at Rayburn Middle School. "We are so excited to be able to showcase our students through this exciting event and to have the opportunity for the public to help support music education!"
Wood is the owner and operator of Wood Violins, the premier manufacturer of electric orchestra string instruments worldwide. He studied under Maestro Leonard Bernstein and is a Juilliard-trained violinist and Emmy-winning composer. In addition to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Wood has worked with Celine Dion, Lenny Kravitz, Billy Joel, and more.
