Summer learning opportunities abound

April 27, 2012

NISD offers a wide variety of courses, from classes needed for remediation and core-courses to allow students to take more advanced and varied courses during the regular school year, to enrichment courses and camps that allow students to explore and have fun while learning something new.

Summer School will run from June 19 to Aug. 9 at Stevens High School.  Pre-registration is being conducted at the student’s home campus through May 25. Class assignments will be completed prior to the summer school session. We strongly urge students to take advantage of this procedure to assure them a class assignment and avoid waiting in line.

Beginning this summer, Accelerated Instruction will be offered for NISD students who failed an End of Course (EOC) test this spring. Once EOC test scores are received from the Texas Education Agency (TEA), students will be contacted by their high school or middle school and told whether they need to take the Accelerated Instruction. There is no cost to the student.

Students must take Accelerated Instruction at their home high school campus. (The students’ “home campus," as defined by the District, is the campus where a student tested in the spring and is currently enrolled.)

Transportation will be provided to the home high school from the closest elementary school. Transportation also will be provided from the home high school to Stevens High School for students also attending Summer School. All transportation arrangements should be made through the home high school.

The Accelerated Instruction course will be held June 13 to July 5 (excluding July 4) from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The dates for retests for the EOC exams will be held July 9-12 on the students’ home campus. The dates for TAKS retest dates are also July 9-12 but will be held on the Stevens High School campus only.
