Free and reduced-price meals available to qualifying students

August 2, 2010

Northside School District will again participate in the National School Lunch Program which provides free and reduced-price meals for students from households with qualifying incomes. Households must apply every school year for the meal program. In addition, foster students who are the legal responsibility to a welfare agency or court may also be eligible for benefits regardless of the income of the household since eligibility for the foster child is based on the child's income.

All NISD students may buy lunch for $1.75 at elementary schools and $2 at secondary schools. Breakfast may be purchased for $.90 at both the elementary schools and secondary schools. The reduced price is $.40 for lunch and $.30 for breakfast all grade levels.

To receive free or reduced price meals for their children, individuals must complete an application and return it to the school or to NISD Child Nutrition Department, 4520 Mainland Dr., San Antonio, Texas 78250. For faster service, applications may now be submitted online.

Beginning on Aug. 16 and running through Oct. 4, the Free and Reduced Lunch Program office will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday. For more information, call the Free and Reduced Lunch Program office at 397-4517.
